Although Barcelona is a large city with important cultural visits, monuments to see and numerous leisure options, there are many interesting places nearby to visit. If your school trip to Barcelona lasts between 4 or 5 days, it is essential to take an interesting excursion. Some interesting options, it can be a walk through Sitges, a fun day in PortAventura. Also do water sports on the coast, a trip to Montserrat or visit the Tibidabo mountain in the city.

Excursion to Sitges

Sitges is a coastal town surrounded by the mountainous Garraf natural park. It is known for its Mediterranean beaches and its pleasant promenade lined with large mansions. Located just 40 kilometers from Barcelona, the excursion to Sitges is one of the most interesting that you can do from the Catalan capital.

This beautiful coastal town is characterized by two fundamental reasons: an old town full of life, where you can walk and get lost without worrying about too many monumental visits; and a very cheerful general atmosphere. Sitges is undoubtedly one of the most popular excursions to Barcelona and is an essential visit on a school trip.

A day at PortAventura

To make your school trip to Barcelona a resounding success, another of the excursions on your school trip to Barcelona could be to visit the amazing PortAventura theme park: a real miniature city with attractions of all kinds. It is divided into 5 different environments: Far West, Mediterranean, Polynesia, Mexico and China, where you will enjoy roller coasters, great attractions, children’s areas and magnificent shows in every corner of the park.

Discover the thrilling attractions in the Mexico area, dare to ride the Dragon Khan in China, the huge red roller coaster with its 8 loops and plunging drops, and travel to the Far West to dodge the strong waves of the Grand Canyon rapids. And for something more leisurely, visit Polynesia. In addition to these thrill rides, there are over 100 live shows, from dancing and acrobatics to Wild West shootouts. Don’t miss this great excursion on your school trip to Barcelona!

Nautical multiadventure on the coast

Your school trip to Barcelona could also include a full day at the coast of Barcelona and a day of nautical multi-adventure.  Water sports is a perfect option to teach them new experiences, to learn to develop new skills and perhaps discover new talents. Sailing, kayaking, windsurfing or paddle surfing are some of the most popular nautical activities. Some of these sports require the collaboration and cooperation of all members of the school group, while others are more focused on individual effort, and on knowing and surpassing oneself.

There are many coastal places to carry out all these adventure activities: the Barcelona Coast, which includes municipalities such as Mataró, Villanueva i Geltrú, Casteldefels, Badalona, etc. As well as the marinas of the city and the Port Olimpic, where there are numerous water sports companies that offer a lot of fun in the sea.

Hiking in Montserrat

Montserrat is a unique natural park in the world and one of the most visited natural places in Spain. It is the most popular place for excursions to Barcelona.

This jagged mountain range has an altitude of 1,236 m and is home to the Sanctuary of the Patron Saint of Catalonia. The excursion to Montserrat on your school trip to Barcelona will be refreshing: a getaway to nature and a cultural visit.

Just over 30 kilometers from Barcelona. We can travel by train or coach from Barcelona and on the way we will visit some of the most picturesque towns in the region, with the objective of the town of Monistrol de Montserrat. From there we will take the famous Montserrat rack railway that allows us to reach the Monastery at the top in just 15 minutes.

In this day trip we will find two important locations. First, the Montserrat Massif, a huge rock formation in the middle of a flat environment. The shapes of this mountain are so peculiar that you can have fun discovering and creating in your imagination shapes of animals and people in the rocks. Secondly, the Monastery of Montserrat, or Santa Maria de Monsterrat, a Benedictine monastery located 700 meters above sea level.

Nature in Barcelona: Tibidabo Mountain

The Serra de Collserola Natural Park is considered the natural lung of the metropolitan area of Barcelona. It extends over 8,000 hectares where forest areas predominate. The highest point of this park is the Tibidabo Mountain that can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. This is an ideal excursion for your end-of-year trip to Barcelona, due to its proximity to the city and the possibilities it offers.

To get to Parc de Collserola you should take the S2 line to Sabadell or S1 to Terrassa of the Ferrocarriles Generales de Catalunya (FGC), and get off at Baixador de Vallvidrera station. We recommend visiting the park’s Information Center, where you will be informed of several easy hiking trails to explore the park.
