Roman Tarraco<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Another excursion not to be missed on your school trip to Salou is the visit to Tarragona, with the aim of exploring the Roman route and all its archaeological sites in depth. The archaeological ensemble of Tarraco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2000 and is one of the most extensive from the ancient Roman province of Hispania. It is also the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula, which went on to become the capital of the province of Hispania Citerior in the first century BC.<\/p>\n

Tarraco, like most ancient cities, has continued to be inhabited, and its own citizens gradually quarried building materials from the old structures. The amphitheatre near the seashore was used as a quarry and only a few traces of it remain today. It was built above the circus, which was 45 metres long, although some of its sections can still be traced. Latin inscriptions \u2014 and even Phoenician ones \u2014 appear on the stones of houses throughout the city. These are the most important monuments of the archaeological site that are essential on your itinerary through Tarraco:<\/p>\n
