It lies outside the old town, but it is well worth making the journey to admire its Gothic style.<\/li>\n<li>One of \u00c1vila&#8217;s principal monuments is the <strong>Convent of Saint Teresa of Jesus<\/strong>, situated opposite the Puerta de la Santa. The convent was built in 1636 on the site of Saint Teresa&#8217;s birthplace. The main feature of the convent&#8217;s interior is the room in which Saint Teresa was born, which has been converted into a baroque chapel of great value.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Mercado Chico<\/strong> square is another of the most important sights on a school trip to \u00c1vila. It is the main square and sits at the heart of the city. This was the location where the market was held in former times. It is a 14 km round-trip route, straightforward but always requiring appropriate equipment and clothing since, at the end of the day, it is a high-mountain route.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Senda de los Pescadores, Arenas de San Pedro<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Senda de los Pescadores (Fishermen&#8217;s Path) is one of the best-known and most highly recommended hiking routes in the area. Starting in Arenas de San Pedro, this short and easy route always ends with a well-earned dip in the natural pools of the area.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Las Chorreras Trail<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Near the small village of Hoyos del Espino you will find the Las Chorreras Trail.
