Particularly beyond the rhinoceros enclosure, deer, fallow deer and Barbary macaques can sometimes be seen wandering among visitors’ vehicles. It is also a very educational park as it features botanical routes that allow you to see different types of plants, usually situated next to the most-visited spots. Excursion to the Picos de Europa: Potes, Li\u00e9bana and Fuente D\u00e9<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Picos de Europa is just half an hour from the beach, and it is a stunning landscape to explore on a day trip. The Li\u00e9bana Valley is one of the most accessible and beautiful areas. Within it lies the well-known village of Potes, reached via the winding Hermida Gorge. As an added highlight on your school trip, you can ride the Fuente D\u00e9 Cable Car, where spectacular views of the entire mountain range await at 1,823 metres above sea level. The Cueva del Soplao is one of the most famous show caves in the country. It was discovered in the early twentieth century thanks to the exploitation of the La Florida mines. It has been called the Sistine Chapel of the underground world.<\/p>\n

The visit combines a train journey and a one-hour walk on foot. However, if the group is more adventurous, there is also the option of a roughly two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, complete with hard hat and head torch.<\/p>\n

Santo\u00f1a is a seafaring town with one of the most prominent historic ports in Cantabria. Its size and importance were such that in 1774 it became embroiled in a dispute with Santander over which should be the regional capital. Santo\u00f1a is also considered the place where the caravel \u00abSanta Mar\u00eda\u00bb was built, and is furthermore known for its fishing and canning industries. When you visit Santo\u00f1a, you cannot miss the anchovies that are famous throughout the country.<\/p>\n

Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Comillas is a beautiful Cantabrian village known above all for its university: the Pontifical University of Comillas. It is also home to El Capricho de Gaud\u00ed, one of the few works by Gaud\u00ed outside Catalonia. You can also visit the Palacio de Sobrellano, the old town and the cemetery \u2014 all well worth seeing, and a stroll around is always a good idea. To round it off, in its shops selling local produce you can buy Cantabrian cheeses, sobaos or pulses in bulk.<\/p>\n
