As we have already seen, one of the reasons that makes the Navarredonda summer camp an ideal place to spend the holidays is its location. It sits within the municipality of Navarredonda de Gredos. This village is found in the south of the province of \u00c1vila, in the northern reaches of the Sierra de Gredos, in the autonomous community of Castilla y Le\u00f3n. Navarredonda de Gredos belongs to the hydrographic basin of the Tormes, which forms part of a larger basin \u2014 that of the River Duero. The Tormes is the main river of the municipality: it rises within its own boundaries and bathes this sierra of unique scenic value with its waters. In the vicinity of Navarredonda there are other villages of great tourist interest, such as Hoyos del Espino, El Arenal, and San Mart\u00edn de la Vega del Alberche.<\/p>\n

The Sierra de Gredos area is a very popular location for summer camps, as is the case with Navarredonda. This is due to several reasons. On the one hand, it is an area of outstanding natural value. This means it offers a camp stay in constant contact with nature, and therefore encourages both learning and the transmission of important values. Care for the environment, awareness of our place in the world, and the benefits of a healthy life: all of these are messages that a summer camp can convey by making the most of its setting in an environment such as the Sierra de Gredos. Navarredonda: a summer camp in the Sierra de Gredos<\/b><\/h2>\n

Navarredonda is a summer camp right in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos. This means it can benefit from all the advantages that come with pursuing leisure activities in a natural space such as this. The Sierra de Gredos belongs to the Central Range (Sistema Central), the mountain chain that crosses the Meseta Central. Other notable sierras within this system, which together with Gredos make up the range, include Guadarrama, Estrella, and Ayll\u00f3n. The Sierra de Gredos lies between the provinces of Salamanca, \u00c1vila, C\u00e1ceres, Madrid, and Toledo. Its foothills are dominated by Pico Almanzor, one of the highest peaks on the entire Peninsula and the highest point in the Central Range. This sierra is composed of granite formations, and for study purposes is usually divided into three sectors. Several glacial lakes can be found here, such as the Cinco Lagunas or the Laguna Grande de Gredos.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, one section of this sierra is designated as the Sierra de Gredos Regional Park. Located in the south of the province of \u00c1vila, it enjoys the protection afforded by its status as a nationally recognised natural space. The park is noted for its rich flora. Its vegetation is typically grouped into oak woodlands, pine forests, and holm-oak groves. These are fed by the waters of rivers such as the Tormes, which are abundant in the sierra and create a great many spots for bathing, such as natural pools and rock pools. The protected area of the park encompasses several municipal districts, including that of Navarredonda de Gredos, near which the summer camp takes place. What better experience in nature than to spend a fortnight of activities in a protected natural area?<\/p>\n

A summer camp close to \u00c1vila<\/b><\/h2>\n

Navarredonda stands out as a summer camp not only for its location in the Sierra de Gredos but also for its proximity to the city of \u00c1vila. This is one of the most picturesque cities in the community of Castilla y Le\u00f3n. It is the capital of its province and of the region. As a curious fact, it is worth noting that \u00c1vila is the highest provincial capital above sea level in the whole of Spain. The history of \u00c1vila is exceptionally rich, and can be explored throughout its historic quarter. The founding of \u00c1vila dates back to Roman times, and after periods of Visigothic and Moorish rule, it became one of the principal cities of Castile. The city is notable for the prominence of its religious and literary figures throughout the Early Modern period, and for the great value of its historic and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

The Navarredonda summer camp is just 60 kilometres from the city of \u00c1vila. The city follows a typical medieval urban layout. In this way, the old town, at the heart of the city, is characterised by its grid-like design, centred on the Plaza del Mercado Chico, the ancient forum. One of the city’s best-known symbols at a national level is the defensive wall that marks the medieval boundary of the city. Of legendary construction, it is believed to have been built in the early eleventh century, and has since offered protection as well as spectacular panoramic views to residents and visitors alike. Within the city, the Cathedral of El Salvador de \u00c1vila stands out as the principal religious building. Churches and monasteries abound, along with a great number of palaces of incalculable historic value.<\/p>\n
