Probably the most important decision when organising an end-of-year school trip is choosing the destination. As it is a group trip (for school or university students), there are many participants and many options to choose from. Depending on the age of the group, certain destinations are more or less popular: trips within Spain for primary school, around Europe for secondary school, Mallorca for sixth form, or even Mexico for university students. However, we must consider the age of the group and preferred destination when choosing a school trip. Other factors such as the chosen travel dates, the budget available, or the type of trip desired are also important. An easy and straightforward way to arrange everything is through an agency or company, which can offer different options and handle all the prior preparation.
But what makes one destination more popular than another? Why are Mallorca, Malta or Italy so frequently visited for end-of-year school trips? To answer this, we need to consider the purpose of the trip. For example, sixth-form trips that tend to choose the Balearic Islands as their destination are often seeking a lively atmosphere in which to celebrate the end of a crucial period of study. By contrast, for secondary school year groups, there may be greater interest in a cultural trip or a desire to discover other parts of Spain. Whatever the final choice, what all trips have in common is the wish to enjoy a few unique, fun-filled days packed with new experiences. Whether in English, in Europe, in Spain, multi-adventure, with or without teachers… end-of-year school trips should always involve fun and learning.
Malta, Mallorca, Andalusia, Italy, London, Valencia, Croatia… How do you choose? With so many options, groups organising end-of-year school trips often find it difficult to decide. What are the most popular domestic destinations?
As we have seen, the most popular destinations vary depending on the age of the group and the purpose of the trip. When analysing them, we can group them into two categories. The first would be end-of-year school trips within Spain. There are many options for school trips in our country. The most common tend to be trips to coastal and beach areas, although multi-adventure options in the mountains are very popular for primary school pupils. In addition to Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza as major domestic destinations, the Levante coast (Valencia, Benidorm, Benicàssim) also stands out. A little further north we find Salou, very popular both for its beach and for its proximity to Port Aventura.
Another approach to domestic end-of-year school trips focuses on cities with a rich cultural and tourist heritage. Madrid, Barcelona and Córdoba are examples of this option. Other areas also stand out for their natural surroundings and activity offerings, such as Cazorla in Andalusia, Galicia, Asturias, the Ebro Delta and the Pyrenees.
What are the most popular international destinations?
The second category of end-of-year school trip destinations is international. Upper secondary and sixth-form groups begin to travel to these destinations, both in secondary school and sixth form. Despite the greater distance involved, they offer a wide range of options and great possibilities for an affordable and enjoyable end-of-year school trip. In this group, Malta stands out as the most popular destination, closely associated with sixth-form and university trips. Italy and cities such as Rome are also among the most frequently chosen. Elsewhere in Europe, destinations range from nearby choices such as Paris and Lisbon to slightly further afield ones (Croatia, Greece). Visiting European capitals is also a cultural and tourist option that in no way compromises the fun. Prague and Amsterdam are particularly notable here.
If we leave Europe and cross the Atlantic, we find destinations that are very popular for university end-of-year trips. For university students, the cosmopolitan New York or Mexico and its coastal resorts, such as Cancún or Acapulco, are particularly appealing. These destinations, being further away and requiring a greater financial investment, are ideally suited to university students.
How to choose a destination for your end-of-year school trip?
With so many options laid out, the question is clear: how do I choose a destination? How do I decide between a beach holiday in Spain and one of the exciting international options? The age of the participants, the dates, the distance and the available budget are the most common criteria that can help us make this decision.
In addition, there are agencies and companies that can help us with this task. One such option is Natuaventura Leisure and Free Time and its wide range of destinations for end-of-year school trips.
