Cabárceno Nature Park

This Nature Park is known for the semi-freedom of some animals. Especially after the rhinoceros’ area you can sometimes see deer, fallow deer and Gibraltar monkeys among the visitors’ vehicles. It is also a very educational park as it has botanical routes that allow you to see different types of plants, usually located next to the most visited places. Both children and adults will be delighted with the excursion to this semi-freedom zoo!

Excursion to Picos de Europa: Potes, Liébana and Fuente Dé

Picos de Europa is half an hour from the beach, and is a wonderful landscape to visit on a day trip. The Liébana Valley is one of the most accessible and beautiful areas. Within it is the well-known village of Potes, which is reached by the winding gorge of La Hermida. Also, you can go up by cable car to Fuente Dé, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the whole mountain range at an altitude of 1823 m. This is an important visit for your school trip.

Soplao Cave

The Soplao Cave is one of the most famous caves to visit in Spain. It was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to the exploitation of the mines of La Florida. Inside we find a geological treasure formed by stalactites, stalagmites and, what makes it more special than others, by beautiful formations. It is called the Sistine Chapel of the subway world.

The visit combines a one-hour train ride and a one-hour walking tour. But if the group is more adventurous there is also the possibility of a tour of approximately 2 hours and a half on foot, wearing of course a helmet and a headlamp.

Taste the anchovies of Santoña and the rest of its typical dishes.

Santoña is a seafaring municipality, with one of the most outstanding historical ports in Cantabria. Its size and importance were even used, in 1774, in a dispute with Santander to become the capital of the region. Santoña is also considered the place where the caravel «Santa María» was built, and is also known for its fishing and canning industries. When you visit Santoña you cannot miss the anchovies famous all over the country.

Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera

Comillas is a beautiful Cantabrian town known, above all, for its University: The Pontifical University of Comillas. It is also home to Gaudí’s Capricho, one of the few works by Gaudí outside Catalonia. You can also visit the Palacio de Sobrellano, its old town and its cemetery. All this is worthwhile and it is always a good plan to take a walk around there. As a closing, in its stores of typical products you can buy Cantabrian cheeses, sobaos or legumes in bulk.
