One of the keys to a successful end-of-year trip is the excursions. We have already told you what you can visit on your school trip to Salou, and now we will reveal the most popular spots nearby. If your end-of-year trip lasts 3, 4 or 5 days, make sure you include two or more of the excursions we suggest here. These are the 5 excursions to do on your school trip to Salou!
Salou is in a privileged location, very close to Tarragona and just an hour from the Catalan capital, Barcelona. This opens up a very wide range of leisure options and excursions of interest: Roman archaeological sites, fishing villages… and, of course, a trip to the famous PortAventura park. Let’s get started!

PortAventura
This great theme park is one of the must-do excursions on your school trip to Salou. It is divided into 5 different themed areas — Far West, Mediterranean, Polynesia, Mexico and China — where you will enjoy roller coasters, major rides, children’s zones and magnificent shows at every corner of the park. Without doubt one of the essential places to see in Salou, where visitors of all ages will have an unforgettable day on their end-of-year trip.
Discover the thrilling rides in the Mexico zone, dare to board Dragon Khan in China — the enormous red roller coaster with its 8 loops and vertical drops — and head to the Far West to dodge the powerful rapids of the Grand Canyon. For something a little calmer, visit Polynesia. In addition to these exciting rides, there are more than 100 live shows, from dance and acrobatics to Wild West shootouts.
Excursion to Barcelona
Thanks to its proximity to the Catalan capital, your end-of-year trip to Salou gives you the perfect opportunity to plan a day trip to Barcelona. Although this city deserves many more days to enjoy and explore it in all its splendour, one day will be enough to fall in love with it: a stroll through the ancient Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, El Born, and discovering the beautiful marina and Barceloneta beach will be enough to make you want to return on another school trip, family holiday or trip with friends. If you also want to include a visit to Camp Nou and the Sagrada Família — two of its greatest attractions — you will round off the Barcelona excursion perfectly. 100% recommended!
Watersports in Salou
The beaches along Salou’s coastline are considered some of the best and most well-maintained bathing areas in Spain. As thousands of tourists flock to them during the hottest months, they are equipped with all kinds of facilities and services. You can also discover their wilder, more secluded coves — rocky and perfect for snorkelling and spotting all kinds of fish and marine life. You can also make the most of your stay in Salou by taking part in all sorts of nautical multi-adventure activities: there are many schools offering courses in parasailing, sailing, deep-sea fishing, powerboating, windsurfing, scuba diving, dinghy sailing and water skiing. There are activities to suit every taste, ability and age — you just need to choose yours and enjoy the sea at its finest, always under the guidance and supervision of professional instructors.
Roman Tarraco
Another excursion not to be missed on your school trip to Salou is the visit to Tarragona, with the aim of exploring the Roman route and all its archaeological sites in depth. The archaeological ensemble of Tarraco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2000 and is one of the most extensive from the ancient Roman province of Hispania. It is also the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula, which went on to become the capital of the province of Hispania Citerior in the first century BC.
Tarraco, like most ancient cities, has continued to be inhabited, and its own citizens gradually quarried building materials from the old structures. The amphitheatre near the seashore was used as a quarry and only a few traces of it remain today. It was built above the circus, which was 45 metres long, although some of its sections can still be traced. Latin inscriptions — and even Phoenician ones — appear on the stones of houses throughout the city. These are the most important monuments of the archaeological site that are essential on your itinerary through Tarraco:
- Roman Circus
- Amphitheatre
- Roman Theatre
- Early Christian Necropolis
- National Archaeological Museum
- Roman Forum
- Roman Walls
Mini Cruise to Cambrils by Catamaran
Finally, among the excursions to do on your school trip to Salou, you should visit Cambrils. If you want to discover Cambrils in a different way, hop aboard one of the mini cruises run by the catamarans from Salou harbour. You choose whether to go return or one-way only. No end-of-year trip is complete without an excursion like this: relax with your group at sea during the half-hour crossing and visit the charming fishing village of Cambrils. Not only will you be able to admire the beauty of the Costa Daurada from a new perspective, but you will also avoid the heavy road traffic in the area. You will also enjoy the exciting experience of swimming in open water and snorkelling, as the mini cruise makes a brief stop so you can make the most of this unique moment. All aboard — let yourself drift and feel the sea breeze on your face.
