1. Surfing on the Asturian beaches

Surfing is the most popular water sport among young people and adults alike, especially along the Cantabrian coast, whose waves are perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers. In Asturias, introductory courses have seen growing demand in recent years, and there are now more and more schools catering to all levels, allowing visitors to spend the morning and/or afternoon learning the secrets of the sea and riding the waves. This increase in the popularity of surfing in the region has led to a constant improvement in infrastructure and services, ensuring that every experience is safe and rewarding.

At Natuaventura, we have a team of professional monitors who work alongside the school’s own monitors, guaranteeing that everything is under control and that students can enjoy their surfing lessons without any danger. Moreover, Asturias does not only offer ideal conditions for surfing, but also a natural and cultural richness that makes every moment out of the water equally exciting.

From impressive landscapes to delicious gastronomy, not to mention the hospitality of the locals, Asturias presents itself as the perfect destination for an unforgettable school trip, where sport, fun, and adventure come together in a harmonious way.

2. Canoeing

In Asturias, canoeing is a very well-known activity that everyone should try at least once in their life. If you decide to organise your school trip to this region, kayaking or canoeing simply has to be on your activities programme.

The descent of the River Sella is the most popular of all, as it is an introduction for anyone who has never tried this experience before. Small rapids, river swimming, jumps, and beautiful scenery are the main ingredients of this canoe descent. In addition, the small bars on the riverbanks serving cider and sandwiches are part of what makes this a unique experience. Everyone comes back for more!

3. Trekking in the mountains

The Principality of Asturias offers a wealth of routes for all abilities, so that your students can enjoy a pleasant walk visiting some of the most magical spots in the region. Here are a few ideas:

  • Visit to the Lakes of Covadonga
  • Ruta del Alba
  • Ruta del Agua

Horse riding

Horse-riding excursions are moments of disconnection, of letting go and feeling the freedom of riding through the heart of nature. In Asturias, routes are available in numerous locations, both coastal and inland, and at all levels and durations.

Canyoning

Canyon descent, also known as barranquismo or canyoning, is one of the most complete adventure activities available. It involves descending the upper course of a river on foot. To complete the activity you must swim, abseil down waterfalls, slide down natural rock chutes, and jump into pools of crystal-clear water. A genuine water park in the middle of nature! The activity lasts approximately half a day, around 3–4 hours.

Canyoning is a rapidly growing activity. Together with canoe descent and the famous Cares Trail, it is one of the most sought-after activities in Asturias and, in particular, in the Picos de Europa National Park.

Caving

The Picos de Europa area has a large number of caves to suit all tastes, ideal for an introductory caving activity. In this part of Asturias there are caves to walk through calmly, caves requiring crawling or abseiling, dry caves, caves with water courses, caves with large sumps…
