Lisbon Cathedral
Santa Maria Maior is the most important Cathedral in Lisbon. It is known as the Sé of Lisbon and is one of the essential visits of the city. The Cathedral of Lisbon or Sé Cathedral, in Romanesque style, is one of the must-see in the Alfama district. It is one of the few surviving monuments to the successive earthquakes and fires that have ravaged the city.
Jerónimos Monastery
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983, the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon is one of the main monuments of the capital. It is a tribute to the golden age of discovery and was built to commemorate the return of Vasco da Gama from India.
Belém Tower
The Belém Tower was used for years for the defense of Lisbon. The tower dates back to the 16th century, the Age of Discoveries, when it was built as a fortress to protect the entrance to the port across the Tagus. Over time, its defensive use was relegated and it was used as a tax collection center and even a prison.
Elevator of Santa Justa
With its 45 meters high, the Elevador de Santa Justa ( called Elevador do Carmo) connects the Baixa with the Chiado district and is one of the must-see tourist attractions in Lisbon.
Commerce Square
It is the most important square in Lisbon. Located where the Royal Palace was before it got destroyed by the Great Earthquake, it is a must-see during your visit to Lisbon where you will have views of the Tagus River, a large space to stroll and cafes and restaurants where you can stop for a drink.
St. George’s Castle
With more than eight centuries of history, the Castle of St. George of Lisbon (Castelo de São Jorge) stands out in any point of the city. Inside the complex you should visit the Ulysses Tower, from where you can have a 360º panoramic view of the city.
April 25th Bridge
This is the longest suspension bridge in Europe. Named after the revolution in 1974 that brought democracy back to Portugal on the same date.
Ladra Fair
The «Feira da Ladra», which in English is something like «thief’s flea market», is a market that offers a wide variety of items, ranging from antique cameras, second-hand clothes, etc. It is held every Tuesday and Saturday mornings. In the surroundings, we recommend you to visit the Parque Clara, also known as Jardim Botto Machado.
Fado Museum
You will find the Fado Museum of Lisbon located in Alfama, in the neighborhood where this traditional Portuguese song was born and developed, which has become the most touristic spectacle of Lisbon.
