Packing for a summer camp is not complicated, but it does mean taking the right things. This guide combines general kit recommendations with the official Natuaventura list that applies to our camps: what to bring, what is useful and what is not permitted under any circumstances.
The basics: bag, rucksack and sleeping bag
The first step is choosing the right type of luggage. We recommend a soft-sided holdall (easier to store in cabins, tipis or shared rooms) and a hiking rucksack of around 35 litres for day trips. For sleeping at many of our camps you will also need a sleeping bag (winter weight) and an insulating mat.
Official list: what to bring

- Soft-sided holdall.
- Hiking rucksack (~35 L).

What NOT to bring
Penknives
Not permitted at any facility or during a hike or bivouac. The organisation provides the tools needed for each activity.
Games consoles
No type of console is permitted. The camp is about digital detox and togetherness.
Mobile headphones / earbuds
Mobiles are collected on arrival and returned every 3–4 days for calls home, so headphones have no practical use during the session.
Smartwatches with SIM
Not permitted. As with mobiles, we want to preserve togetherness and full attention during activities.
Vapes / cigarettes
Vaping and tobacco are not permitted under any circumstances. This is a camp for minors and the policy is strict.
Practical tips for packing
Label everything with the child’s name: clothing, towels, toiletry bag, water bottle, torch. This dramatically reduces losses during the session.
Pack together with your child: make sure they know what is in the bag and where everything is. That way they will be able to pack up on their own on the day of departure.
Bring “camp clothes”: clothing that can get dirty without it mattering. In multi-adventure, mountain activities and outdoor games, new clothes will suffer.
20–30 EUR in coins and small notes: this is the amount we recommend for excursions and small purchases. Enough without being excessive.
Health card + parental authorisation: essential to hand over on the first day. The organisation holds them throughout the session.
Frequently asked questions about camp kit
Does the bag need to be a specific size?
There is no compulsory size, but we recommend a soft-sided bag of a size the child can manage independently. Large rigid cases are awkward in shared accommodation.
Is a sleeping bag needed even in hostel accommodation?
Yes, at most of our camps. The information sheet for each destination confirms this. We recommend a winter-weight sleeping bag: at mountain locations, nights can be cool.
How much pocket money should they take?
We recommend 20–30 EUR. This is the amount designed to cover excursions and small purchases. More adds no benefit and increases the risk of loss.
What happens if they bring a mobile phone?
Mobiles are allowed but collected on arrival and returned every 3–4 days for calls home. For this reason we advise against special chargers or headphones: they will not be in continuous use.
What if they need medication?
Medication must be handed in on the first day with the child’s medical form, in its original packaging and with clear instructions. The organisation administers it throughout the session.
