Without doubt, attending a summer camp for the first time is a wonderful experience for children and young people. One of the reasons why summer camps are so special is that our children will have new experiences there for the very first time in their lives.
These new experiences need not be surprising — in fact, for us as adults they are quite everyday and simple things. However, for children attending a summer camp for the first time, even the most straightforward things are a novelty that brings them great satisfaction and joy.
New experiences enrich our children’s knowledge and allow them to develop their abilities whilst learning to adapt to an environment that is completely different for them.
9 Experiences and Unforgettable Moments Before Attending a Summer Camp
As we have mentioned, children enjoy new experiences at camps enormously. Indeed, if we have ever had the opportunity to attend a summer camp, we are sure to have unforgettable memories not just of the camp itself, but even of the hours leading up to it. Let us look at some of these experiences before camp that our children will enjoy if we enrol them for the next school holiday season.
- One of the first experiences is opening a water bottle for the very first time and being desperate to use it. There is always the moment when our mother tells us it needs to be washed first.
- Going from one chemist to another searching for an insect repellent spray.
- Trying every possible method to label footwear, towels, clothing and everything else. One of the main recommendations when attending a camp is always to label your personal belongings, and even doing this is enjoyable.
- Packing the rucksack completely, only to realise you have forgotten an important item or personal article and having to start all over again. That moment is classic and almost nobody escapes it.
- Filling the washbag to almost bursting point. Then we discover the problem that we cannot fit everything back in again.
- Ringing all your friends to find out what clothes they were going to bring, and then seeing that your parents are doing the same — calling your friends’ parents for exactly the same reason.
- Playing with the torch the night before camp and leaving it practically out of batteries.
- On the way to summer camp, listening to the string of reminders about being sensible and well-behaved. It is a classic part of the journey to summer camps.
- Saying goodbye to our parents without realising that they were even more pleased than we were.
All these moments are typical when attending a summer camp for the first time. Some of these experiences before camp are marked by the excitement of the new experience and the expectations it generates. In another article on Natuaventura.com, we will focus on the experiences at camp itself, and how these will help our children to learn and become more autonomous and independent.
