There are summer camps that pass through the mountains, and summer camps that sleep in the mountains. The Gredos Multi-Adventure Camp, at Hoyos del Collado (Ávila), is firmly the latter: accommodation in tents within a municipal facility designed exclusively for camps, in the heart of the Sierra de Gredos, with a bivouac included in the programme. It is designed for boys and girls aged 7 to 16.
Arriving at Hoyos del Collado: the First Day
The coach leaves Madrid in the morning and travels along the AV-941 to km 21.5, in Hoyos del Collado (Ávila). The facility is purpose-built for residential camps: tree-lined and illuminated camping areas, a covered outdoor dining area and separate toilet blocks. The message given to participants and families from the outset is clear: here «we do not share facilities». The camp is the sole occupant of the site for the duration of each two-week session.
A Day in Gredos
The camp offers two sessions: 2–14 July (€598) and 17–29 July (€568). Each day is built around the natural rhythm of the mountains: morning activity, midday rest, afternoon large-group game and an evening under the stars.
Waking up outdoors: washing in the separate toilet blocks, breakfast under the covered outdoor dining area and team briefings. Four meals a day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner) with an on-site kitchen and menus adapted for allergies.
Morning in the mountains: mountain trails through the Sierra de Gredos, archery and a high-ropes course. A fixed ratio of 1 activity leader per 8 participants and groups of no more than 40–50.
Midday and natural swimming: lunch in the outdoor dining area followed by a swim in natural pools or the river — one of the camp’s defining features.
Afternoon large-group game: Yellow Humour inflatables, a horse ride, zip wire or treasure hunts, depending on the day’s programme.
Evening and night in the tent: games, music and one of the session’s special nights: the bivouac — a wild camping night in the Sierra de Gredos, away from the main site.
What Makes This Camp Unique
Sleeping in Tents
Accommodation is in 3–4-person non-mixed tents within tree-lined, illuminated areas. This is the defining feature that sets this camp apart from others in the group: there are no hostel bedrooms here.
Bivouac in the Sierra
On one night of the session, the group heads out for a bivouac: a wild camping night in the Sierra de Gredos, away from the usual site, with dinner in the mountains and a star-filled sky overhead.
Natural Pools and River
The surroundings offer natural pools and river swimming spots. These form part of the camp’s daily routine and are the most enduring image of a summer in Gredos.
Horse Riding
A horse ride is one of the included activities during each session. It is organised by team, with activity leaders and technical supervision throughout.
Keeping in Touch with Family
Mobile phones are permitted but collected on arrival and returned for calls home every 3–4 days. Families receive a daily social media diary showing the group’s activities. Recommended pocket money is €20–30.
Frequently Asked Questions
What ages is the camp for?
The Gredos Multi-Adventure Camp is designed for boys and girls aged 7 to 16, split into age groups. This is a narrower range than some other camps in the group, tailored to the nature of the activities and the tent-based accommodation.
Does sleeping in a tent work well?
Yes, and it is one of the camp’s hallmarks. The tents are 3–4-person, non-mixed, installed in tree-lined and illuminated areas within the municipal facility. Separate male and female toilet blocks with individual showers are just a few metres away.
What exactly is the bivouac?
The bivouac is a wild camping night away from the camp’s main site. The group heads out with activity leaders and equipment, has dinner in the mountains and sleeps one night under the stars. It is the day participants remember most when they return home.
How many sessions are there and what do they cost?
There are two sessions: the first runs 2–14 July (€598) and the second 17–29 July (€568). Families can choose based on their schedule and place availability.
What is the food like at a tented camp?
The facility has its own kitchen, with four meals a day and menus adapted for allergies. The dining area is covered and outdoors — a solution perfectly suited to the setting and the Gredos summer.
