English summer camps in Madrid have multiplied over the last decade, with very uneven quality. This guide explains what to look for in an English-language camp in the Sierra de Madrid and why real immersion happens when there are multi-adventure activities in the morning, play in English in the afternoon and an evening programme in English at night.
What makes a camp truly an «English camp»
100% immersion, not classes
English must be present at every moment: at breakfast, during activities, at the evening session. It is not an English class with a camp wrapped around it; the entire camp is in English.
Activity leaders at C1 level or above
The team must be bilingual or native speakers, with a minimum certified C1 level. This is what distinguishes a real English camp from a camp «with classes».
Activities designed in English
Live Cluedo, Trivial Contest, Scavenger Hunt: games designed for natural language use, not translated from Spanish.
Multi-adventure as the engine
Language is learnt when it is needed: asking for climbing equipment, organising the team for the treasure hunt, describing what happened at the evening session.

Why a camp in the mountains rather than an urban one
An urban English camp remains, in large part, a language school with extended hours. A residential camp in the mountains forces the child to use the language all day long: from asking for a snack to organising the dormitory. That is what multiplies the results over the summer.
Activities included in Sierra Madrid English Camp
Climbing on the hostel’s indoor wall, archery, natural swimming pools (Río Sequillo) and a municipal pool 200 m away, Humor Amarillo, mountain trails, a trip to Parque Warner, workshops, games and treasure hunts, parties and evening sessions. Plus the specific immersion activities: Cluedo, Trivial Contest and Scavenger Hunt — all in English.
Frequently asked questions about English summer camps in Madrid
Does my child need a minimum level of English?
No. Groups are organised by age and activity leaders adapt their language to each participant’s level. Immersion works from beginner to advanced level.
What is the activity leader-to-participant ratio?
1 activity leader per 8 participants, in groups of a maximum of 40–50 campers organised by age.
How do phone calls and mobile phones work?
Mobile phones are permitted but collected on arrival and returned for calls home every 3–4 days. The team also publishes a daily social media diary so families can follow the day-to-day.
How many meals are provided and what is the catering like?
Four meals a day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner), with in-house catering, home-cooked food and menus adapted for allergies and intolerances.
Is pocket money needed?
We recommend between €20 and €30 per participant for incidental expenses (shops on excursions, souvenirs, etc.). The money is held by the activity leaders.
