What are end-of-year school trips?
End-of-year school trips are educational leisure stays undertaken by school groups away from their school or college. They typically involve travelling to a location of tourist or natural interest where the group spends 2 to 5 days together, taking part in activities that complement classroom learning: teamwork, independence, respect, community living and contact with the natural environment.
Although they were historically associated with the end of a key stage (Year 6 of primary school or Year 11 equivalent), today end-of-year school trips take place across all year groups, from Year 1 of primary school through to Sixth Form, with the programme and destination adapted to the age of the group.
Why go on an end-of-year school trip?
Group cohesion
Spending days together away from the classroom strengthens relationships between classmates, especially those who interact less in day-to-day school life.
Independence and confidence
A few days away from familiar surroundings, managing their own routines, develops the independence and self-assurance of those taking part.
Experiential learning
Activities in nature, cultural visits and group dynamics generate learning that the classroom cannot replicate.
Lifelong memories
The end-of-year trip is one of the most memorable experiences of school life, both for pupils and for teachers themselves.
Reinforcement of values
Living together puts into practice the values worked on in the classroom: respect, cooperation, responsibility and empathy in real-life situations.
Opening up to the world
Discovering new destinations, cultures and environments broadens pupils’ perspectives and awakens their curiosity about the world around them.
What types of end-of-year school trip are there?
🧑🤝🧑 With 24h activity leaders
The most complete and recommended option. Qualified activity leaders accompany the group at all times: activities, meals, evening entertainment and overnight supervision. Teachers can take a rest.
🗺️ With a tour guide
Ideal for trips with a strong cultural element. A specialist guide accompanies the group on visits to cities, museums and heritage sites of interest.
🇬🇧 Language immersion
All activities and communication with activity leaders take place in English. Perfect for reinforcing the language in a fun, natural way outside the classroom.
🏖️ Beach destination
Watersports activities (surfing, sailing, kayaking), beach olympics, games on the sand. Destinations such as Valencia, Salou, Benicassim or the Costa del Sol.
🏔️ Mountain destination
Multi-adventure, hiking, climbing, zip-wire in natural surroundings. Destinations such as Asturias, Cantabria, Madrid Sierra Norte or the Pyrenees.
🏛️ Cultural destination
Visits to historic cities, museums and protected natural spaces. Combines curriculum-based learning with the experience of travelling as a group.
How does a school trip with Natuaventura work?
Departure from school
The activity leader team joins the group from the school gates. The coach journey is the first point of contact: leaders introduce themselves, break the ice and start building a good atmosphere before arriving at the destination.
Day one: settling in and ground rules
Arrival at the accommodation, room allocation and presentation of the programme. Community living rules are explained: respect between participants, communication with the activity leaders and the organisation of each day.
Middle days: activities and community life
A full programme of morning and afternoon activities tailored to the destination and age group: multi-adventure, cultural visits, water sports, workshops, treasure hunts. Evening entertainment organised by the activity leaders.
Final day: return journey
Checkout from the accommodation, loading the coach and return to school. Activity leaders accompany the group to the agreed drop-off point arranged with the school.

How to choose the right school trip
Three key decisions before booking:
With or without activity leaders?
We always recommend the 24h activity leader option: greater peace of mind for families, more activities, overnight supervision and teachers who can enjoy the trip rather than managing the group.
Which destination?
This depends on the age of the group, the time of year and your objectives. For primary school, we recommend nearby destinations (Madrid Sierra Norte) or classic ones (Asturias, Cantabria). For secondary school, more options are available: beach, city or adventure.
In Spanish or in English?
If the school wants to reinforce English, language immersion is a highly valued option. Activity leaders communicate in English throughout all activities and the programme is designed to encourage use of the language.
