English summer camps in Madrid have multiplied over the past decade, with very uneven quality. This guide explains what to look for in an English summer camp in the Sierra de Madrid and why real immersion happens when there is multi-adventure activity in the morning, play in English in the afternoon and an evening programme in English at night.
What makes a camp genuinely «English»
100% immersion, not lessons
English must be present at every moment: at breakfast, during activities, in the evenings. It is not an English class with a camp around it; the entire camp runs in English.
C1 or above activity leaders
The team must be bilingual or native, with a minimum certified C1 level. This is what distinguishes a real English camp from a camp «with lessons».
Activities designed in English
Live Cluedo, Trivial Contest, Scavenger Hunt: games designed for natural use of the language, not translated from Spanish.
Multi-adventure as the driver
The language is learnt when it is needed: asking for climbing equipment, organising the team for the treasure hunt, recounting what happened in the evening session.

Why a mountain camp rather than an urban one
An urban English camp is still, largely, an academy with extended hours. A residential camp in the mountains means the child uses the language all day long: from asking for a snack to organising themselves in the dorm room. That is what multiplies the results of the summer.
Activities included in the Sierra Madrid English Camp
Climbing on the hostel’s indoor climbing wall, archery, natural swimming pools (Río Sequillo) and municipal pool 200 m away, Humor Amarillo, mountain hiking, excursion to Parque Warner, workshops, games and treasure hunts, parties and evening entertainment. Plus the specific immersion activities: Cluedo, Trivial Contest, Scavenger Hunt — all in English.
Frequently asked questions about English summer camps in Madrid
Does my child need a minimum level of English?
No. Groups are organised by age and activity leaders adapt their language to each participant’s level. Immersion works from beginner to advanced level.
What is the activity leader to participant ratio?
1 activity leader per 8 participants, in groups of a maximum of 40–50 campers organised by age.
How do phone calls and mobile phones work?
Mobile phones are permitted but collected on arrival and returned for calls home every 3–4 days. The team also publishes a daily diary on social media so families can follow the day-to-day programme.
How many meals are served and what is the cooking like?
Four meals a day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner), with the facility’s own kitchen, home-cooked food and menus adapted to allergies and intolerances.
Is spending money needed?
We recommend between €20 and €30 per participant for incidental expenses (shops on excursions, souvenirs, etc.). Money is kept by the activity leaders.
