Organisation of the Cuenca Multiadventure Camp

Cuenca multiadventure runs in a single session during the summer:

  • From 1 to 14 July.
  • Boys and girls from all over Spain take part.
  • Capacity of up to 200 campers, who are divided into age groups.
  • We are organised into three age groups: younger children, middle group and older group; with a ratio of 1 leader per 8 participants.

At the borderline ages between one group and another, participants are distributed according to their preferences or the friends they wish to be with. In the cabins we divide again to sleep with participants of a similar age, with boys and girls separately.

This division is always carried out on an approximate basis, taking into account the actual age distribution of participants each year. The aim is to encourage as homogeneous a group as possible in terms of age, as this allows the schedule to be best tailored to the characteristics of each sub-group.

Several activities are also organised in which all sub-groups participate together. This helps to foster a feeling of unity among participants and activity leaders — a sense of being a genuine family.

These groups are:

YOUNGER CHILDREN // 7–10 YEARS

  • We work with a maximum ratio of 1 leader per 8 campers.
  • Each cabin has an assigned leader who will have close and consistent contact with their campers.
  • As well as having fun, we will learn to be more independent in day-to-day tasks such as organising our things, choosing clothes, keeping ourselves clean, etc.
  • The younger children’s leaders will help the children from the moment they wake up until they go to sleep in all the day’s activities, always leaving space for them to learn and take the initiative themselves.

MIDDLE GROUP // 11–13 YEARS

  • We work with a maximum ratio of 1 leader per 8 campers.
  • Each cabin has an assigned leader who will have close and consistent contact with their campers.
  • They are already more independent campers but we will continue to help them every day. Games are adapted to the age of the participants.

OLDER GROUP // 14–17 YEARS

  • We work with a maximum ratio of 1 leader per 8 campers.
  • Each cabin has an assigned leader who will have close and consistent contact with their campers but will give them more space.
  • Games and activities designed so that they continue to enjoy the camp to the full. But they will have more space, autonomy and time to spend with their friends. They will also help to organise some activities for themselves and for the other groups.

In the lead-up to camp, the coordinators and activity leaders organise the day-to-day schedule. However, the schedule may change due to external factors such as the weather or possible changes decided on the spot that need to be adapted to.

TYPICAL DAILY SCHEDULE AT CAMP

Throughout these 14 days of the first fortnight of July, the boys and girls attending the Cuenca multiadventure summer camp enjoy a packed schedule of activities. This schedule is designed months before the camp begins, with particular attention paid to the combination of activities and the pedagogical and recreational objectives set by the camp’s coordination team.

The schedule includes many activities specific to each age group. This division is always a guideline, as it is adjusted according to the final age distribution.

Through sporting games, workshops, excursions, precision and intelligence games, creativity games, multiadventure activities, free time, etc., we manage to create a balance and cover all the fun ways of learning while catering to all the tastes of the campers.

So, during these camp days, activities at the facility itself alternate with those carried out outside it (such as excursions or multiadventure activities). In this way, a fundamental balance is maintained so that each day at camp is full of excitement and involves a new experience at every turn.

The Camp Facility: Alta-Lai Hostel

We stay at the Alta-Lai Hostel, located in Talayuelas, Cuenca, just 7 minutes from the village centre. The facilities are specially designed for running summer camps, offering comprehensive equipment including swimming pools, sports areas, multiadventure facilities, large wooded green areas, an indoor dining room, individual shower rooms and its own kitchen.

With accommodation options in cabins or, in isolated cases, in the hostel building (in bunk beds), both similar and distributed according to the number and ages of the participants, the camp guarantees a comfortable and safe experience.

Logistical support is also provided, with vehicles, sporting equipment and games, as well as access to natural swimming pools, river bathing spots and green spaces in the surrounding area to fully enjoy nature.

Multiadventure in Cuenca: Activities and Learning in Nature

Some activities are aimed at group cohesion and are designed with all participants in mind. These activities seek to strengthen group togetherness and bring the older members of the group into contact with the younger ones. In this way the bonds of camp life are reinforced and values such as camaraderie, empathy and generosity are broadened.

The Cuenca multiadventure summer camp alternates a schedule full of games carried out in the surroundings and in the hostel’s rooms with major multiadventure activities. Among these, the practice of climbing and via ferrata stands out. For this, the group travels to a nearby mountain area set up for teaching this sport.

The location of the hostel encourages the development of recreational activities in a unique natural space. It allows for mountain hiking, caving, archery and abseiling. This is complemented by a visit to the Oceanogràfic and two days on the beach in Valencia.

All of this is combined with team sporting games, workshops and evening sessions. Participants will also be able to enjoy the Humor Amarillo inflatable gymkhana.

The multiadventure activities that stand out year after year are:

  • Rope course.
  • Zip lines
  • Climbing and climbing wall
  • Caving
  • Via Ferrata
  • Archery
  • Canoeing
  • Gymkhanas and workshops
  • Mountain hikes, some including an overnight BIVOUAC.
  • Swimming in pools, rivers and natural rock pools.
  • Humor Amarillo inflatables.
  • Themed days such as Feria Day; and themed games such as Cluedo and the Holi Run.

Cuenca also stands out for its excursions to the Valencia beaches, the Oceanogràfic, rivers, etc.

What sets Cuenca Multiadventure apart from other camps?

At Cuenca Multiadventure, the fun reaches new heights and is immersed in waves of excitement. What makes us different? Imagine this: high mountains and beach days all in one camp! Just 3 hours from Madrid, we set off on adventure, exploring the majestic mountain scenery and then heading down to the beaches of Valencia in just 1 hour.

The camp is super dynamic because with so many activity options — both multiadventure and water-based — the possibilities are endless. We also stand out for being a camp with many campers, reaching almost 200 children in the summer of 2023 and expecting the same for 2024.

For this reason, the feeling of unity and belonging to the group is enormous, making us feel like we are at one of those camps you see in the films. And not just the bond between campers — for the activity leaders too, it is fourteen days of adrenaline and excitement, and they miss these two weeks throughout the rest of the year.

How to Prepare for a Multiadventure Camp in the Heart of Nature

Preparing for an adventure camp in the heart of the sierra and mountains involves both the right equipment and the right mindset.

In terms of kit and equipment, it is essential to bring:

  • Food for the journey there.
  • A non-rigid suitcase, sports bag or large rucksack for luggage.
  • A rucksack for excursions. 40 litres recommended. Larger is fine too.
  • A winter sleeping bag (recommended temperature rating: 5°C) and an insulating sleeping mat.
  • A varied selection of clean, comfortable clothing to cover 13 days.
  • A cap and sun cream.
  • A waterproof cagoule or jacket.
  • A shower towel.
  • A swimming towel.
  • A washbag with shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.
  • 2 pairs of trainers or light boots.
  • Flip-flops and/or water shoes.
  • A water bottle.
  • A torch and batteries.
  • A plate, cutlery, a cup and a cloth for drying dishes.
  • Bags for storing dirty clothes.
  • Health insurance card.

Mentally, come with a willingness to learn, work as a team and face challenges without prejudice and with a positive attitude. Remember that the adventure is as much about enjoying nature as it is about personal growth.

Adequate preparation guarantees a safe and enriching experience. Pushing yourself always makes the whole experience an unforgettable and deeply satisfying moment.

Not to mention that the safety and wellbeing of every camper are our main priorities at our camps. We have highly qualified staff and strict safety protocols to ensure that every adventure is safe and enjoyable.

In addition, our team of professional activity leaders is available 24 hours a day to attend to any need or concern, ensuring that every participant has a positive and enriching experience.
