How to Choose the Ideal Summer Camp for Your Children

Every year, the team at Natuaventura.com, receives calls from groups, associations, educational centres, and families who are interested in booking a summer camp and choosing the most suitable one for their pupils or children.

Choosing the ideal camp for our children or pupils, involves taking into account several factors related to the camp itself. Of course, we know that summer camps are a magnificent option for children’s and teenagers’ holidays, but when it comes to taking the step of booking a camp, most parents or guardians ask themselves: how do I choose the ideal summer camp for my children or pupils?

That is why, at Natuaventura.com we would like to dedicate this post to addressing this matter and offering some advice when it comes to choosing a summer camp that suits your needs. Let us look at 4 recommendations for choosing a camp correctly.

4 Questions to Consider When Selecting the Ideal Summer Camp.

  1. Who will make the decision about choosing the camp?

At Natuaventura.com we have an exclusive camp advisory service, in which we place our experience at your disposal to guide you in selecting the ideal summer camp. Nevertheless, the final decision will always rest with the family or those responsible for the group. In order to make a sound decision, as well as seeking advice, it is very important that the decision is made together — that is, between the children and their parents or guardians.

At this point, the key is that the summer camp chosen is the one that the participating children enjoy most, and the one that leaves their guardians or parents most satisfied. To reach that conclusion it is necessary to consider the opinion of absolutely all participants. This is even more important when dealing with a group of pupils, where it would be appropriate to consult everyone’s opinion. On the other hand, if the camp is just for our own child, we should discuss it with them directly.

  1. What kind of skills do you want to develop at camp?

Nowadays camps are classified by theme, which means it is important for us as parents to be observant in order to determine which camp would best reinforce our child’s talents or natural abilities. For example, if our little ones show enthusiasm for science, technology, or music, a good option would be talent development summer camps.

On the other hand, if they love football, basketball, or any other sport, sports summer camps or nautical summer camps could be an excellent choice. If we have not yet determined our child’s natural talent, chances are that, like most young people, they will simply want to enjoy adventure and nature — in which case multiadventure summer camps would be an excellent recommendation.

In making this choice, it is worth remembering that many parents want their children to have fun whilst also learning another language, which makes English summer camps the ideal option in such cases. These camps feature a wide range of very enjoyable activities, with the difference that communication takes place in English, allowing participants to have fun whilst simultaneously learning and building confidence in speaking another language.

  1. How long is the summer camp?

This is another of the questions we need to answer in order to choose the ideal summer camp for our children. Residential camps are usually scheduled in weekly or fortnightly blocks. In this case, the team at Natuaventura.com advises that if your child is attending a camp for the first time, the ideal option is to book a one-week camp, as this will allow them to experience it with greater satisfaction.

On the other hand, for children who are already accustomed to going to camps, enrolling them in a 15-day camp may be the ideal choice, as it gives them time to build friendships and make the most of their stay.

  1. What menu does the summer camp offer? Do they have menus adapted for food intolerances?

Finally, one of the aspects that parents most commonly raise when choosing a summer camp is the question of food. To make a good decision in this regard, the recommendation is that parents or guardians ask in detail how many meals make up the full board arrangement, so they can check whether it includes a snack or not. It is also important to ask for the menu in advance, so you can determine whether or not it meets your expectations.

On the other hand, if our child suffers from any food intolerance, it is important to notify the camp well in advance so that the management can offer suitable solutions and alternatives.

Taking these four factors into account, you will certainly be able to choose the right camp for your children or pupils — one in which everyone will be happy with the decision, and the experience is sure to be very rewarding.
