The first step in school trips is the journey from the school to the destination.
This is usually made by coach, and when the trip includes an accompanying team of monitors (which is the most common case), the team generally travels with the group of pupils so they can get to know them and build a rapport. This initial contact is very important, because even over just a few days the monitor team develops a very close bond of trust with the participants, which helps to ensure they have fun and learn as much as possible during that time.
The first day of the trip involves settling in to the accommodation, allocating rooms, and going through the itinerary and the rules of conduct that will apply throughout the trip. The most important of these is mutual respect amongst participants and constant communication between them and the monitor team, so that the experience is as enjoyable as possible for everyone.
After the First Day, Activities Tailored to the Trip Begin in Earnest
In the following days, the bulk of the activities take place. These can include visits to places of tourist and cultural interest (cities, museums, nature reserves), multi-adventure or water-based activities (surfing, kayaking, archery, climbing, horse riding), as well as sports games and gymkhanas organised by the monitor team themselves. Where these activities involve travel, the coach journey is made with the monitor team, who also supervise and take part in activities led by specialist instructors.
In the evenings, before bedtime, evening activities are usually held: games organised by the monitor team as the highlight of each day.
What Does the School Trip Include?
All meals, which are usually taken at the accommodation itself. In the case of meals during an outdoor activity, these are provided as a packed lunch.
On the last evening of the trip, a small end-of-year celebration party is organised by the monitor team for the participants, with music and games, as the perfect finale to an unforgettable few days.
